I’m a choreographer, dancer, and performer who enjoys vibrating in intimate physical states. Whether my ensemble geekily smiles at the audience (and hopes they smile back) or I sit in spotlight furiously jiggling cellulite-marked thighs, my work breaks repetitive patterns of composure. It celebrates those precious moments of uncomfortable self-awareness. I create dances that prioritize indulgence for the performers and open the audience’s acceptance of pleasure by giving them snacks to enjoy at their leisure. By using performance as a space to experiment with my own indulgence, pleasure, and excess, I hope to unlearn deeply rooted restrictions and turn down the disciplining internal committee that dissuades my desires. As a person who has a queer relationship to gender, sexuality, and body size, my work offers slanted versions of widely accepted norms to create more options for the image of a fierce and confident body.
